Apple, Alibaba to roll out Qwen-powered AI features in China

Apple and Alibaba said on October 31 that they will integrate Qianwen into Apple Intelligence in China.

The move will let users access text and image understanding, and content generation, through Siri, Writing Tools, and Visual Intelligence.

The features will be available for testing from November 4 in the latest iOS developer beta. A broader rollout in China is planned for December alongside the official release of iOS 27.3, the companies said.

Alibaba markets Qianwen, also called Qwen, as a generative AI model.

The planned rollout comes as China has implemented specific rules for generative AI services, while the Cyberspace Administration of China assesses some data export activities.
