Southeast Asian fintech firm Fazz has named former Tokopedia executives Angus Kong and Seong Per Lee as CTO and head of data and AI, respectively. The two joined the firm in March this year.

Before joining Fazz, Kong was the assistant vice president of data science at Tokopedia, leading 40 data scientists to develop image recognition, review understanding, and product recommendation functions, among others, at the company. He was also a senior software engineer at Google.
Kong will lead the development of Fazz’s finance products for small retailers, startups, crypto firms, and enterprises. He replaces previous CTO Victor Liew, who will continue to handle security and other innovation initiatives at the firm.
Meanwhile, Lee held positions at WeCash, Nanyang Technological University, and the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore. At Fazz, he’s been tasked with optimizing the company’s AI and data models to increase efficiency in assessing credit. He will also lead fraud detection initiatives and help in automating loan and statement processing.
“Since he joined us, Lee has helped to enhance our credit scoring engine. Through the AI and data science processes that he has developed, we have already disbursed more than US$500 million in loans,” said Fazz chief executive Hendra Kwik in a statement.

Fazz itself is a new entity that was formed after the merger of Indonesia-based Payfazz and Singapore-based Xfers in March last year.
Earlier this month, the firm raised US$75 million in a series C funding round from Tiger Global and DST Investment, among others. At the same time, it also secured a US$25 million debt facility from Lendable.
