Remember a previous article about King of Fighters XIII (KOF13) being added to the Steam database? About how when you search for SNK, a thumbnail of the KOF13 logo labeled KOF13SE_OP will appear as a search result? Well, now it’s official. King of Fighters XIII is now officially on Steam!
At the moment, KOFXIII Steam Edition is still in the closed beta test (CBT) phase, but is available for pre-order on Steam at a discounted price of $24.99. That’s 17 percent off its regular price of $29.99. The promo runs up to September 14, a day after its release date. Those who can’t wait for the release can sign up for CBT, which ends on August 18. There will only be a total of 300 participants in the CBT. Should the number of applicants exceed 300, the participants will then be selected randomly from a lottery drawing. Participants will be notified via e-mail on August 19.
King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition features
As KOF13 comes to Steam, it takes with it several console-exclusive features. Some examples of this are the online mode for versus matches against people across the internet, the tutorial mode for beginners, and the story mode with improved visual novel format. There are also several kinds of online matches namely the ranked match, player match and friend match. Results of ranked matches will affect the players’ ranking and as such, matches are held under specified regulations. For casual matches, the player match allows you to fight others without having to worry about affecting player ranking. In case you want to issue a challenge to a specific person, you can send them an invite through the friend match mode.
There are also various missions available in the game that most fighting game players will be familiar with like time attack, survival, and trial. Time attack challenges you to defeat a number of opponents in the shortest amount of time. Survival, on the other hand, challenges you to defeat as many opponents as you possibly can without losing a series while using only one character. And finally, trial assigns 10 tasks, which focus on combos and moves that will in turn help you master.
KOF13 is available via the Steam Store and is set for release on September 13, 2013. You may also download and register via the Steam home page.
