140 Chinese chip firms impacted by new US export curbs

The United States will implement new restrictions on China’s semiconductor sector starting Monday.
These measures will affect 140 companies, as the new rules impose export curbs on high-bandwidth memory chips and 24 chipmaking and software tools.
Restrictions will also apply to some chipmaking equipment made in countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. Japan and the Netherlands, which are significant players in the sector, are exempt.
American lawmakers have noted connections between some of the targeted companies and Huawei Technologies, crucial to China’s chip development.
These companies will be on the US Entity List, needing a special license for shipments.
