Alibaba Cloud expands in Europe with first Dutch region
Alibaba Cloud, Alibaba Group’s cloud computing arm, said on October 29 that it had opened its first public cloud region in the Netherlands.
The launch includes two data centers in Amsterdam to meet European demand for cloud and AI services, while supporting in-region data residency.
The Netherlands region offers computing, storage, and database services.
Alibaba Cloud also unveiled an updated Apsara Stack hybrid cloud product and said it planned to bring AI agent services to the region.
The company said it already operated cloud regions in Germany, the UK, and France.
Over the next 12 months, it planned to open its first region in Finland and add data centers in Germany and France.
European cloud providers hold 15% of Europe’s local cloud infrastructure market, according to Synergy Research.
In-region data storage is distinct from sovereign cloud arrangements, which some European organizations seek to reduce exposure to foreign jurisdictional claims on data.
