Amazon to deploy 3,000 electric trucks in India with Tata Motors
Amazon said on October 27 it will work with Tata Motors, an India-based automaker, to deploy 3,000 electric trucks in India. The rollout will start with city freight movement in Delhi during the festive season.
Tata Motors will supply the trucks, while Amazon’s carrier partners will own and operate them. Charging hubs being developed with Yahhvi, a charging infrastructure provider, will support the expansion.
A later phase aims to electrify the 2,800-km Delhi-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor across seven states. Amazon said it has more than 15,000 electric vehicles operating in more than 500 Indian cities.
Long-range electric freight truck testing has begun on the Bengaluru-Chennai leg, but available research does not confirm a fully built charging network across the full corridor.
The reviewed material includes research on highway truck electrification, but it does not provide market-wide electric truck sales volumes or detailed specifications for the Tata trucks in this deployment.
