China’s Guangdong province launches AI, robotics hub

On Apr. 1, the Guangdong provincial government launched an initiative to establish the region as a hub for AI and robotics.
The plan offers significant subsidies, including grants of up to 50 million yuan (US$6.88 million) for manufacturing innovation hubs, and up to 3 million yuan (US$412,662) for individual companies.
Additionally, up to five open-source communities and ten large language model use cases in manufacturing will receive up to 8 million yuan (US$1.1 million) annually.
The initiative highlights contributions from local tech firms like Huawei and Tencent.
It is part of Guangdong’s strategy to become a global leader in AI and robotics, building on the success of similar efforts in other provinces like Zhejiang, which has seen growth in companies such as DeepSeek and Unitree Robotics.
