Google to back $19b Anthropic Kentucky data center lease

TeraWulf, a US bitcoin miner expanding into AI data center infrastructure, said in a November 4 filing that Google agreed to support Anthropic’s 20-year lease at its Kentucky campus.

The lease covers US$19 billion and 401 megawatts of capacity.

If Anthropic defaults or becomes insolvent, Google can assume the lease or, under certain conditions, pay a termination fee for equity in project subsidiary Raylan Data, not TeraWulf.

Google generally must assume the lease during the first six years of its support.

The support starts separately across three leased sections once each section’s final data hall is delivered.

TeraWulf expects deliveries from late 2027 through the second quarter of 2028.

Kentucky regulators also approved a 482 MW power agreement for the Justified Data Campus.

The deal deepens TeraWulf’s shift beyond bitcoin mining.

In 2024, the company announced plans to deliver over 70 MW of data center infrastructure for G42’s US operations.
