Intel to buy Israeli quantum software startup Classiq for $1.9b

Intel agreed to buy Classiq, an Israel-based quantum-computing software startup, for about US$1.9 billion, subject to purchase-price adjustments, plus up to US$350 million tied to performance milestones, according to Intel’s third-quarter filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.

Intel said the acquisition would combine Classiq’s software with Intel’s quantum-hardware efforts to create a full-stack quantum-computing platform. Intel has pursued those efforts since 2015.

Classiq raised US$110 million in 2025 and later said IonQ, AMD, and Qualcomm Ventures joined a later funding round.

Intel can pay in cash or shares. It has not disclosed the performance milestones or completed its purchase accounting assessment.

Intel’s shares fell about 42% between October 26 and November 5 after the company reported quarterly results.
