OpenAI launches Images 2.6 with GIFs, 50% faster generation
OpenAI said it rolled out Images 2.6 globally across ChatGPT, Codex, and its API on November 4, adding GIF generation and new editing controls.
The API includes GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst. It also adds image markup, scalable vector graphics exports, and a complexity parameter that controls how much planning the model does.
OpenAI said users now create 4 billion images a week across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API.
It said Images 2.6 generates images 50% faster than the previous version.
Flare can generate an image in as little as six seconds at low quality.
OpenAI’s developer docs already cover image generation and editing in the Images API.
Separate pages list API pricing and address content provenance.
But the reviewed materials did not confirm specific prices or provenance standards for the new release.
