Perplexity plans to use Nvidia Vera CPUs

Perplexity, a San Francisco-based AI search startup, said on July 7 that it plans to use Nvidia’s new Vera central processing units as Nvidia moves further into a market dominated by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

Perplexity vice president for computer enterprise and infrastructure Nate Kupp said Vera handled AI agent coding tasks about 1.5x faster than traditional CPUs. He did not say how many chips Perplexity plans to buy.

Nvidia introduced Vera in May as a CPU for AI agents and said systems from server makers and cloud partners will start this fall.

Vera will serve as the host CPU in its Vera Rubin platform.

Nvidia said it expects Vera to generate US$20 billion in sales by the end of its fiscal year.

The company also said original equipment manufacturers and cloud providers are planning to deploy the chip.

The server CPU market is still dominated by Intel and AMD, although Arm-based server CPUs made up 13.2% of total shipments in the latest Mercury Research data.
