Philippine solar distributor Lumio raises $900k pre-seed
Lumio Solar, a Philippines-based company that distributes solar appliances for consumers, raised a US$900,000 pre-seed round led by climate-tech venture builder 100×100.
The funding will be used to build distribution infrastructure for its products across the Philippines.
The company said it is targeting households beyond the typical rooftop solar market, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, agribusinesses, and institutions.
Its products includes fans, lights, freezers, and portable power stations that require little or no installation.
The round comes as 100×100 has launched a US$100 million climate venture builder for Southeast Asia and India to build 50 more climate-tech startups.
Lumio Solar is entering a market where rural off-grid communities remain part of the Philippines’ electrification challenge, while high electricity prices and frequent outages have been cited as drivers of solar demand.
Its rollout may also face evolving oversight, with the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry moving to regulate solar panel systems.
