US privacy-focused AI startup Ollie to shut down

Ollie, a startup developing a privacy-focused AI assistant, will shut down on November 6, co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon said on X.

In September, the company discussed its US$7.5 million seed round, led by Khosla Ventures, and described its product as a privacy-first AI assistant for families.

The subscription app connected to users’ email and calendars, and offered tools for booking appointments, planning meals, and paying bills.

Lennon said competition from rivals including Muse and Instinct made it harder for Ollie to stand out, grow, and raise capital.

The shutdown comes as Dealroom tracks launches of personal AI agents from big tech companies, while Y Combinator categorizes AI assistant startups as a distinct segment.

Ollie had also achieved Service Organization Control 2, or SOC 2, compliance. Lennon said customers will receive instructions on exporting their data and getting refunds.
