Samsung Electro-Mechanics Q3 profit soars 165% on AI demand
Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a South Korean electronic components maker, said its third-quarter 2026 revenue and operating profit reached record highs of 3.8 trillion won (US$2.83 billion) and 691 billion won (US$521 million), respectively.
Operating profit rose 165% year on year, driven by AI data-center components and semiconductor package substrates.
Sales of multilayer ceramic capacitors, or MLCCs, for AI applications and FC-BGA substrates for AI data centers and automotive uses increased.
Higher camera-module supply for electric vehicle customers helped optical solutions revenue rise 3% year on year to 941.3 billion won (US$710 million), though it fell 9% from the previous quarter.
FC-BGA (flip chip ball grid array) substrates support high-performance chips and handle signals at high speed in AI and data-center systems.
The company also approved a 2.5 trillion won (US$1.89 billion) investment in its Vietnam subsidiary for advanced package substrates, including FC-BGA.
AI-related MLCC demand is outpacing supply, while automotive electronics also support demand.
