Samsung Q3 net profit hits $56b on AI chip demand

Samsung Electronics said third-quarter net profit rose sharply from a year earlier as demand for AI memory chips lifted earnings.

Net profit reached 75.1 trillion won (US$56.3 billion), revenue was 195.3 trillion won (US$146 billion), and operating profit came to 107.4 trillion won (US$80.6 billion).

The semiconductor division generated 106.5 trillion won (US$79.9 billion) in operating profit.

Samsung’s device experience division, which includes mobile and consumer electronics, recorded an operating loss of 800 billion won (US$600 million).

Samsung said it has shipped HBM4 and begun mass production and customer shipments. The cited reports do not identify the customers.

The results followed record quarterly profit at SK hynix, a South Korea-based memory chipmaker.

SK hynix has separately highlighted a 40 trillion won (US$30 billion) share repurchase and retirement plan as part of its shareholder returns.
