Tencent-linked investor takes stake in China’s AI drug startup

Aifei Zhiyu (Beijing) Technology, a Beijing-based AI drug research and development company, added Shanghai Qishan Investment as a shareholder and increased its registered capital to 12 million yuan (US$1.79 million), according to Qichacha.

A separate report said Shanghai Qishan Investment is a Tencent subsidiary, suggesting the new stake was made through a Tencent-linked investment vehicle.

The company also added other new shareholders, but the source report did not name them.

The move adds to Tencent’s activity in AI drug discovery. Tencent backed XtalPi in 2018 and runs the Tencent iDrug platform.

In China, registered capital reflects shareholder commitments, so the increase should not be treated automatically as the exact amount of new funding raised.
